About

"The sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, who are within your towns, shall come and eat and be filled, that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands that you do."

Deuteronomy 14:29

Don and Janet Guizzetti Founders and Executive Staff

We provide Christ-centered, humanitarian aid to people in a single, painfully impoverished sub-Saharan nation that is the epicenter of violent Islamic insurgencies. Over two million internally displaced people (IDP), most evicted from subsistence farms, are struggling with increasingly unreliable rains and diminishing foreign food aid. Everyone suffers.

Don and Janet, our founders took early retirement, downsized their lives, and answered the call to serve on foreign missions. Called to serve in West Africa, they first managed a Bible translation and training center. When their tour was finished, they then continued full-time what they had been doing “on the side”—feeding babies and working in the community.

A Baby With Mint Green Clothes in a Bedsheet

Our first baby, “Bienvenu” (“Welcome’ in French), resembled tiny bones in a brown cellophane bag. He was nearly dead-still in his mother’s trembling arms. Now, ten years later, he runs after a well-worn soccer ball with his friends, most a little taller than he. And we are now feeding 160-babies and doing so much more in a land where hunger is as close as your shadow.

Tony and Isabelle Covarrubias Missionaries and Managers

With perfect timing, Tony Covarrubias and Isabelle Tapsoba arrived. “The Oasis” had grown up around Janet and me. We were working long hours every day and often in 100-degree plus heat. We needed a bigger team.

God works many, many angles at any one moment. While we were hoping and praying, God was at the same time preparing them. They heard the call. Tony, Isabelle, and their two children, Graciella and Jakim, departed the United States with everything except a mission. Then, we met each other. They found their mission, and we found the help for which we were asking God.

Tony and Isabelle welcome every new need and challenge. They bring new perspectives to how and what we do at the Oasis. They see what works and what can work better. They are both hands-on, the day-to-day, as well as looking down the road and over the next hill. As the pressure of needs grows, Tony and Isabel will help us meet those needs as God graces us. We are blessed to welcome Tony and Isabel and their children, Graciella and Jakim, to the Oasis of Hope.

Bienvenue à tous!
